Put simply Durban is a city of two halves that, when combined, creates one of South Africa’s most popular tourist destinations.
Here we take a look at some of Durban’s must-see attractions
The Beach
An obvious but unavoidable choice, Durban’s 100km of azure waters and powder soft sands are one of its most popular attractions. Water-sports enthusiasts come to catch a wave, families to enjoy the warm waters, couples to find the intimacy of a romantic cove. When you need a break from fun in the sun head to one of the many restaurants that line the beachfront, Moyo, on the uShaka Pier, is a particular favourite offering a delicious mix of meat, chicken and fish dishes alongside stunning sea views.
Indian Market
Step into the heart of New Delhi without leaving Johannesburg as you lose yourself in the Indian Market. This bustling bazaar is awash with the smells of incense and the sounds of native Indian chatter. Traditional food stands tempt you with sumptuous offerings whilst colourful saris, scarves and ornaments offer unforgettable souvenirs. The marketplace also has historical significance, as evening during apartheid the marketplace was used by all races and minorities, families carrying out their weekly shopping blended in amongst the crowds, seemingly shielded from the troubles that once blighted the rainbow nation.
Rickshaws
See a new side of Durban as you take to one of the city’s famous Rickshaws and enjoy a relaxing journey along the Golden Mile. This stretch of prime beachfront is home to casinos, luxury hotels, sumptuous restaurants and some of the finest coastline in the city. Take a trip at night and see the lights of the city sparkle against the night sky.
